The School of Engineering and Sciences at Tecnologico de Monterrey invites applications for Three full-time fully funded PhD Positions in the area of Information Theory and Coding at Tecnologico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, Mexico.


The successful candidates will be engaged in research projects on Error Correcting Codes (ECC), design, analysis, modeling, testing, and feasibility for storage systems. Specific areas of interest are:
- Smart algorithms and performance of Turbo Product Codes (TPC)
- Design and evaluation of Low-Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes
- Network Coding for security
- Iterative detection and decoding algorithms
- Implementation in FPGAs, hardware verification
- Development of drivers, firmware for storage

STARTING DATE: August 2021.
SCHOLARSHIP: 100% tuition, and a monthly stipend for living expenses.
DURATION: 48 months by maintaining a GPA of at least 90/100.
LOCATION: Monterrey, Mexico. (Main city in the Northeastern region of Mexico).
APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 2021 for admission in August 2021

The Candidates will work in the School of Engineering and Sciences in the Telecommunications Research Focus Group. The admitted candidates will be in the Ph.D. program in Engineering Sciences with concentration on Telecommunications.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (to be obtained in or before June 2021) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Signal Processing, Communications, Computer Engineering, or related areas. If the candidate does not have a master’s degree, he/she can apply for the M.Sc. program in Engineering Sciences with concentration in Telecommunications with a full-time scholarship (100% tuition and a monthly stipend for living expenses for 2 years) and continue towards the Ph.D. degree if performance is adequate.
- The candidate should have strong analytical and programming skills.
- The applicant must have research interests to work within a team and independently.
- Excellent oral/written communication in English. TOEFL test scores or previous degree from an Institution with primary instruction in English. An interview is conducted, and this requirement might be waived

- Statement of research interests and future vision on the field. (Description of your topic of interest maximum 10 pages). It must have the form of a research proposal with introduction, research problem, objectives, methodology, work plan, justification, references
- Admission test from Tecnológico de Monterrey (PAEP), or GRE test scores.
- Extended version of CV with list of publications, scans of diplomas, skills, and awards.
- A letter describing your interest in the Ph.D. position and why you think you can be selected (max three pages).
- Signed recommendation letters of three academic references. They should send them directly to cvargas@tec.mx. They can use a free format.
- School transcripts of previous degree showing GPA
- Interview with a member of the admissions committee (it will be organized after application materials have been received)
